BACOLOD City – About 1,300 security personnel were deployed across the city for the two-day observance of Undas, according to Chief Inspector Lester Leada, deputy chief of the operations branch of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Leada said 654 police officers and 623 force multipliers were sent across the city to man not only the 12 public and private cemeteries but also churches, malls, markets, commercial areas, parks, and tourist destinations, among others.
Leada added that the BCPO also put up motorist assistance desks in strategic areas.
Assistance desks in malls, seaports, airports, and bus terminals were set up, too, according to BCPO spokesperson Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas.
The BCPO also deployed officers to patrol in residential areas during Undas, Leada said.
Bladed weapons, firearms, alcoholic beverages, karaoke, and playing cards, among others, were prohibited in cemeteries, Vargas said.
For his part, Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said, “Our mission is to (have) zero major incidents. To ensure this, we should work together in one and with commitment.”
Nocppo deployed route safety marshals for motorists and set up police assistance hubs to assist the public, especially persons with disabilities and the elderly.
Nocppo set up its hubs in cemeteries, malls, and terminals.
In a statement, Nocppo said the deployment of police personnel “mainly targets the prevention of crime and reduce the opportunities of the criminals to take advantage of the situation.”
Meanwhile, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office closed Burgos Street along the Bacolod Public Cemetery and the Rolling Hills Memorial Park on yesterday and today./PN
