ILOILO City – A 14-year-old boy in Barangay Poblacion, Malinao, Aklan stabbed a village councilman who reproached him for buying cigarettes.
The boy, a Grade 7 student at the Malinao School for Philippine Craftsmen, ran away after stabbing Gerry David, 50, around 1:30 a.m. yesterday but was arrested hours after.
David, a barangay kagawad of Malandayon, Malinao, died of a wound in the abdomen.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Manhanip, Malinao, said he got mad at David for reprimanding him.
David was with several friends binge drinking at a store where the boy bought cigarettes, said Senior Inspector Alfonso Manoba Jr., Malinao police chief.
There was a heated argument between David and the boy prior to the stabbing. The kagawad apparently chided the suspect that minors were prohibited from buying cigarettes, said Manoba.
The boy used a 16-inch knife on David.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Malinao took custody of the boy./PN
