ILOILO City – A pickup plowed five persons early morning yesterday in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district.
The victims were supposed to attend the traditional misa de gallo or dawn mass at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral but ended up in hospitals.
Worse, the pickup that hit the five did not bother to stop and help them, said Superintendent Alexander Rosales, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Iloilo City Traffic Management.
All residents of Barangay Tacas, Jaro, the victims were Herna Rosales, 51; Ruffa Mae Arca, 18; Crystal Mae Sabidalas, 14; Jonna Trabuco, 16; and Joyda Trabuco, 26.
Rosales and Arca were confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center while Sabidalas was taken to the West Visayas State University Medical Center.
The two Trabucos, on the other hand, were rushed to the Iloilo Mission Hospital.
The hit-and-run happened around 4:20 a.m. The five victims were walking along the road.
“We are coordinating with establishments near the crime scene to get security camera footages of the incident and zero in on the pickup’s license plate,” said Rosales.
This is the first misa de gallo-related incident in the city so far, according to Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the ICPO.
“We are appealing to the pickup driver to surrender and help the victims,” said Sangrines./PN
