ILOILO City – Heavy monsoon rains displaced 15 families here over the weekend.
In Barangay Calubihan, Jaro district, 11 families composed of 40 individuals fled their houses because of rising floodwaters.
These families temporarily stayed at the Calubihan barangay hall.
They returned to their houses after the floodwaters receded.
At Monterosa residential subdivision in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao district, three houses near a creek were partially damaged.
According to Barangay Captain Efrain Tagaytayan, bamboos bent due to strong winds and eventually fell on the creek. This created an artificial dam.
The bamboos eventually gave in due to strong water pressure. Portions of three houses were damaged.
Tagaytayan said it happened at around 3 a.m. on Saturday and the creek’s water lever reached the critical point at around 8 a.m.
Families left their houses and gathered at a safer open space near the subdivision, said Tagaytayan until the floodwaters subsided in the afternoon./PN
