ILOILO City – Ilongga triathlete Jacqui Rosee Lamparero clinched the fastest time by a Filipina in the Women’s 16 to 19-year-old category of the 2017 Subic Bay ASTC Triathlon, to finish 6th overall in the Junior Elite event of the international tournament on April 29.
“It was an honor representing my country in this year’s ASTC Subic Bay International Triathlon,” the young sportswoman told Panay News. “Beyond grateful to the Man above because He leads me onward.”
A 17-year-old high school student of Central Philippine University, Lamparero conquered the arduous 750m swim- 20km bike-5km run course, clocking in at 1:18:02, just ten minutes shy of the top seed claimed by Taipei’s Ting-ting Chang (1:08:19).
Chang was followed by Chelsea Hung (01:11:54) of Hong Kong, Louisa Middleditch (01:11:54) of Singapore, Wing To Cho (01:13:35) of Hong Kong, and Phoebe Kee (01:16:34) of Singapore rounding out the Top 5.
Behind Lamparero are fellow Filipinas 18-year-old Una Sibayan (01:19:55) and Olongapo-native Victorija Deldio (01:20:04).
Lamparero shares that, more than anything, she is excited to test her mettle and join even more international races this year.
Just this January, Lamparero claimed a dominant lead in the Sprint Distance event of the 2017 National Age Group Triathlon – Subic Bay Freeport race to finish with a gold medal.
Lamparero comes from a stellar year of achievements, successful defending her women’s sprint distance MangoMan Triathlon crown in May last year, bagging first place for two straight seasons of the Guimaras Island event.
In December last year, the young runner also placed 3rd during the 5K run of the 2016 National Milo Marathon Finals held in Iloilo at the Iloilo Business Park.
In June 2016, Lamparero shined brightest during the DELO National Age Group Triathlon held at Cagayan De Oro to bag the Leg 4 (16 to 19-year-old division) championship for the second consecutive time, accomplishing the same feat in July 2015.
The 2017 Subic Bay ASTC Triathlon is an international event organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines in cooperation with the Subic Bay Metropilitan Authority (SBMA) and sanctioned by the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ATC) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU)./PN
