19-year-old arrested for online harassment of minor ex-girlfriend

ILOILO City – Operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 6 (RACU 6) conducted a successful entrapment operation in this city, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old lad.

The suspect, identified by the alias “Kit,” was apprehended on March 4 for allegedly harassing and threatening his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend.

Investigations on Thursday, March 19, revealed that the suspect used explicit photos and videos of the minor to coerce and intimidate her.

The suspect is currently in police custody for proper disposition. He is facing a string of charges, all in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act (RA) 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012): Article 286 (Grave Coercion) of the Revised Penal Code, RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), and RA 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act)

Police Brigadier General Wilson C. Asueta, acting director of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, commended the team for the swift arrest.

“Those who exploit and harm children will face the full force of the law,” Asueta stated. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activities to help us protect the most vulnerable members of our society.”/PN
