KALIBO, Aklan – Two suspected gunrunners were caught in an entrapment that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6 set up in Barangay Poblacion, Banga town.
CIDG identified the suspects as Ruel Teodosio, 40, a chef at Aklan State University, and brother Russel, 38, a security officer at the Office of the Mayor in Banga – both residents of Barangay Bacan, Banga.
The brothers were part of a gunrunning gang in Aklan, according to Senior Superintendent Francisco Esguerra, CIDG regional director.
Citing intelligence information, the CIDG said the suspects also supply weapons to gun-for-hire groups.
The Teodosio brothers denied they were gunrunners.
Facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, they were detained at the Banga police station.
Operatives led by Esguerra conducted the entrapment at around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
The brothers sold to them an unlicensed .30-caliber carbine with magazine and 11 ammunition for P45,000. A 12-gauge shotgun was also seized from them.
CIDG operatives negotiated with the brothers for three weeks prior to the buy-bust, said Esguerra.
“We have been tailing them since last month,” he said. “Negotiating with them was difficult kasi segurista sila. We used a man close to them to materialize our operation.”/PN
