ILOILO City – Two police officers were relieved from their posts in light of the allegation that they were involved in illegal gambling.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is investigating Superintendent Ruby Gumban, deputy director for administration of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, and Police Officer 1 Mike Dagacay of the Regional Intelligence Division.
Their relief was effective Feb. 8. They were temporarily detailed at the Regional Holding and Accounting Unit of the PRO-6.
Gumban and Dagacay were accused of engaging in the illegal numbers game “bookies.”
Gumban was named in a list of suspected bookies financiers and protectors that Provincial Board member Domingo Oso said he received from a concerned citizen in September last year.
Oso handed the list to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, provincial police director, who launched an investigation.
Tayaba said they already cleared Gumban after finding no evidence that could pin her down or any witness to testify against her.
“We interviewed some of her neighbors. None of them could tag her to illegal gambling,” he said. “Wala namang sapat na evidence at walang may nag-testigo against her so she was cleared.”
Tayaba said the results of their investigation were remitted to their regional office.
Gumban denied engaging in illegal gambling. She said she is willing to undergo further investigation to prove her innocence.
“I directed all police chiefs in northern Iloilo to conduct operations against illegal gambling tapos ako pa ang dudahan,” she lamented./PN
