MANILA – Ilonggas Jovelyn Gonzaga and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas were leading the Philippine Superliga Selection team that will compete in 2017 Annual Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Volleyball Tournament this week in Sisaket, Thailand.
Aside from Guimaras native Gonzaga and Passi City native Pontillas, also in the team were fellow national women’s volleyball team members Mika Reyes, Frances Molina and Rhea Dimaculangan.
Also tapped to complete the Philippine representative in the weeklong tournament were Honey Royce Tubino, Filipino-American Mar Jana Philips, Shiela Pineda, Angelique Dionela, Mary Remy Palma, and Relea Saet.
Ceseal delos Santos will be the head coach. He recently mentored Petron Blaze Spikers to a 2017 PSL All-Filipino Conference championship.
The Philippine squad had been bracketed in Group B with powerhouse squads Bangkok Glass, which it will first face tonight, and Rangsit University, which is their next opponent on Wednesday.
Group A comprised PEA-Sisaket, Khonkaen Star Volleyball Club and So UK Volleyball Team.
“Sending this team to a prestigious tournament in Thailand is Philippine Superliga’s way of giving international exposure to our volleyball players for possible call-ups for the national women’s volleyball team,” said PSL president Ramon Suzara./PN
