ILOILO City – Two persons were separately arrested in this city and Iloilo province for defying the Commission on Elections-imposed gun ban.

The 34-year-old Charlie Bedoy of Barangay San Florentino, San Rafael, Iloilo was caught at a police checkpoint yesterday.

Cops seized from Bedoy a 12-gauge shotgun and 10 bullets in Barangay Poblacion, San Rafael around 12:05 a.m.

The suspect was taken to the town’s police station.

In this city, 44-year-old Julius Borromeo of Barangay Lapuz Norte, La Paz district yielded a .38 revolver. He was detained at the La Paz police station following a quarrel with his brother Leo who sought the police’s help.

Leo told the police Julius threatened him with a gun.

The gun ban, which started yesterday, was in line with the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this Oct. 23. Although the Senate and House of Representatives agreed to postpone the polls for next year, President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to sign the law for the postponement that both houses of Congress approved.

Bedoy and Borromeo face charges for violation of the election gun ban and for illegal gun possession.

The election gun ban suspended all permits to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) from Oct. 1 to 30, the election period, according to Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Police Regional Office 6 director.

Only law enforcers are authorized to carry firearms but they must be in complete uniform./PN
