ILOILO City – The city government’s Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines Iloilo Chapter Inc. (FSCAP) kicked off the 32nd Elderly Filipino Week yesterday.
Various programs and activities are anchored on this year’s theme, “Pagkilala sa Kakayahan, Ambag at Lahok ng mga Nakatatanda sa Lipunan.”
“We encourage senior citizens to join in this celebration. This is the best time for us to show our capabilities,” said OSCA head Elipidio Azuelo.
City hall allotted P140,000 for the week-long celebration.
Elderly Filipino Week is an annual event that aims to give importance to the roles of senior citizens in helping build the nation at the same time address issues concerning the older people’s sector as declared through Presidential Proclamation 470 Series of 1994.
It officially started with a “Walk for Life” yesterday at SM City Iloilo in coordination with PhilHealth Region 6 and the Department of Health.
Today, there will be a mass at the San Jose Parish Church and parade to the Freedom Grandstand.
The “Spiritual Enhancement” is set at the Diamond Jubilee Hall tomorrow.
The search for “Golden King and Queen” – with seven pairs representing every district of the city – will be conducted at SM City on Oct. 4.
The Huluaran sang Katigulangan Awards 2017 will recognize 14 awardees at SM City Iloilo on Oct. 5.
The Regional Cultural Presentation will have six provinces and three cities to compete at Hotel del Rio on Oct. 6 to be sponsored by Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6.
The Culminating Night will be participated by senior citizens from seven districts at the Iloilo Grand Hotel on Oct. 7. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
