2 Kalibo buy-bust suspects caught in ‘pot session’

KALIBO, Aklan – Two street-level drug personalities were arrested in an anti-drug operation in Kalibo, Aklan on February 12, 2022. The drug suspects are residents of Roxas City, Capiz.

Joint elements of Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) and Kalibo municipal police station conducted the buy-bust operation in a lodging house along C. Laserna Street, Poblacion.

The suspects were later identified as 22-year old John Michael Piedad of Legaspi Street, Roxas City, and his cohort, 29-year old Rodbelle Dasas, a tricycle driver of Barangay Lawa-an, Roxas City.

A poseur buyer handed the P3,000 buy-bust money to Piedad at around 7:42 p.m. in exchange for a heat-sealed sachet containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.

Piedad was the target of the buy-bust operation after a tip from a police asset that the suspect is engaging in illegal drug trade activities.

Aklan PDEU chief Lt. Col. Frenzy Andrade said the suspects were having a pot session when the operatives barged in for the sting operation.

“They are always here in Aklan, once or twice a month. They also take illegal drugs there in Capiz,” he added.

Recovered from them were two pieces of aluminum foil, a disposable lighter, a roll of aluminum foil containing suspected shabu and residue, and a mobile phone.

After their arrest, they were temporarily detained at Kalibo municipal police station lock-up facility.

The suspects are facing charges for violating Section 5 (illegal sale of dangerous drugs) and Section 12 (illegal possession of dangerous drug paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
