BACOLOD City – Two minors drowned at the Malugo River in Barangay 13, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

They were Danica Ilustre, 16, of Barangay Villamonte in this city and Kent Hechanova, 13, of Barangay 9, Victorias City.

Rescuers from the Victorias City government tried to revive them, to no avail. The victims were pronounced dead in a nearby hospital.

Ilustre was spending the summer break with her relatives, said Superintendent Herman Garbosa, Victorias City police chief.

She and Hechanova were swimming with friends and relatives around 2 p.m. on Wednesday when they reached a deep portion of the river.

Ilustre was drowning when Hechanova tried to save her, but he drowned, too, police investigation showed.
