CAPIZ – Around 200 soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) donated blood during a bloodletting activity at the 3ID covered gym in Jamindan town on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The activity was done in partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC).

WVMC chief Dr. Joseph Dean Nicolo and 3ID commander Major General Benedict Arevalo also signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) establishing a mechanism for the collection and storage of collected blood and its withdrawal.

It was stated in the MOA that 60 percent of the blood collected will be deposited to the WVMC Blood Bank for their patients and 40 percent would be for the soldiers.

Nicolo said WVMC will also provide training and nurses for the 3ID hospital at the latter’s headquarters in Camp Peralta in Jamindan.

Arevalo, for his part, said the bloodletting activity was the first after two years of coronavirus pandemic and will now be done regularly.

“Malaki ang tulong ng bloodletting especially sa mga patients na nangangailangan at sa ating sundalo. Pero sana hindi magamit ng ating sundalo. Ayaw natin may masamang magyari sa tao natin,” Arevalo said./PN
