2020 Speed Chess Championship: Duda advances after beating Caruana

Jan-Krzysztof Duda advanced to the next round of the ongoing 2020 Speed Chess Championship after eliminating Fabiano Caruana, 19-7, in their match at the chess.com server Sunday, Nov. 15.

Caruana started like a house on fire, winning the first three games until Duda struck back and leveled the score at the halfway mark. The 22-year-old top Polish player then completely overwhelmed the 28-year-old world number two player in the faster formats of the second half of the match, limiting Caruana to just three points on a win and four draws in the last 13 games to clinch a spot in the Round of 8.

Duda thus joins early qualifiers Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Fedoseev, Wesley So, Levon Aronian and Hikaru Nakamura to the next round.
