BACOLOD City – A total of 21,430 establishments in this city applied for business permits in the first six months of the year, latest records from the Permits and Licensing Division of the local government showed.

The number of permit applications from Jan. 3 to June 30 this year was higher compared to the yearlong transactions in each of the years 2012 to 2016, the figures released on Friday further showed.

In 2012 the Permits and Licensing Division issued 18,959 business permits while in 2013 there were 18,457. In 2014, there were 18,606; in 2015, 18,817; and in 2016, 19,021.

In 2017, the city government issues 22,004 business permits, 15.68 percent higher than in 2016.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the number of businesses registered in the city could reach as high as 26,000 by the end of this year.

“It would be an all-time high,” Leonardia added. “Remember, Ayala is opening (its mall) this year. They promised me, before the MassKara Festival, they will hold even just a soft opening. That means thousands of businesses will be coming in.”

During the Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) operation from Jan. 3 to Feb. 28 this year alone, a total of 19,007 establishments applied for business permits.

The Permits and Licensing Division then projected a 20-percent increase in business permit applications for the entire 2018 from the previous year’s 22,004.

Division head Stela Rose Rayos had said the BOSS operation has helped fast-track the processing of permits, allowing business owners to save time and money. (With a report from PNA/PN)
