KALIBO, Aklan – Three street-dancing defending champions have registered for the 2017 Sadsad competition of the Ati-Atihan Festival.
Tribu Bukid Tigayon in Tribal Small category, Tribu Ilayanhon nga Inapo ni Gen. Candido Iban of Balik-Ati category and Aeang-Aeang of Modern Group category were among the 14 groups that signed up for the Jan. 14, 2017 contest as of Oct. 28.
Tribal Big category champion Black Beauty Boys has not yet registered as of this writing.
Other early registrants in Tribal Small were Tribu Ninolitos, Tribu Tikbalang and Lezo Tribe.
Tribu Anono-o and Kinantuing have registered for Balik-Ati, too.
Also signing up early for Modern Group were Pirates 1962, Bae-ot Bae-ot, Lagalag 27 Original, and Gala Drumbeat D’Neighborhood.
In Tribal Big, only Vikings and Tribu Timawa have registered so far. Perennial runner-up Kabog has not registered yet.
Organizers are expecting around 30 tribes to join the 2017 Sadsad.
Interested groups have until Dec. 28 to register with the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi).
Subsidies are given to registered groups after they submit a filled-out registration form; a list of members/drummers and marshals; valid identification document of the leader, president or founder; pictures of costumes; and a signed agreement with Kasafi. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
