MANILA – Three boxers from Negros Occidental were among 32 Filipino fighters who made it to the top 10 world rankings of three different boxing bodies by the end of 2017.
Genesis Servania, Aston Palicte and Arthur Villanueva were listed in the year-end rankings of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
Servania, a Bacolod City native featherweight fighter, ranked No. 5 in the WBO rankings. He recently pulled off a first-round stoppage victory against Kittiwat Sirichotchayakun of Thailand.
Palicte of Bago City – the reigning North American Boxing Federation super flyweight champion – was No. 9 in the WBC and No. 5 in the IBF super flyweight rankings.
Also from Bago City, Villanueva – the reigning WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion – was No. 10 in the WBC’s bantamweight rankings.
Also on the lists were former world champions Manny Pacquiao (welterweight), Marlon Tapales (minimumweight), Brian Viloria (flyweight), Nonito Donaire Jr. (super bantamweight), John Riel Casimero (super flyweight), and Rey Loreto (minimumweight).
Other Filipino fighters in the world rankings were Robert Paradero, Mark Magsayo, Vic Saludar, Jonathan Taconing, Juan Miguel Elorde, Randy Petalcorin, Mark Anthony Barriga, and Albert Pagara./PN
