3 suspects in slay of ex-soldier arrested

ILOILO City – Police arrested three suspects in the rob-slay of 54-year-old retired Armed Forces of the Philippines member Joniffer Borda in Barangay Bolo, Roxas City, Capiz.
They were 39-year-old security guard Rogelio Padernal of Barangay San Jose, Roxas City; 39-year-old Garry Onilan of Barangay Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz; and 28-year-old Ian Abagatnan of Barangay Tacbuyan, Estancia, Iloilo, a police report showed.
Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Jomuad Jr., Roxas City police station chief, said the suspects were caught in their respective residences on July 21 after a witness positively identified them.

Jomuad added that the suspects were involved in the illegal drug trade in northern Iloilo.

Padernal admitted to the police that he was behind the July 20 killing and robbing of Borda, a security agency supervisor, who was on the way to his office after withdrawing the salary of security guards from a bank.
From the P130,000 they took from the victim, Padernal – also working in the security agency managed by Borda – said the P30,000 was intended for illegal drugs.

“They admitted to us during the interrogation that they were the ones who robbed and killed the victim. We solved the case in less than 24 hours,” said Jomuad.
Jomuad revealed the asset was approached by Padernal to join the robbery.

The suspects were detained in the lockup facility of the Roxas City police station, facing charges./PN
