ILOILO City – Thirty-four sachets of suspected shabu were seized from a meat trader in Barangay Damoong, Janiuay, Iloilo yesterday, police said.

The 51-year-old Edmund Defensor of Barangay S.M. Villa, Poblacion, Janiuay was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 7:20 a.m.

The Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Intelligence Division and Janiuay police station that carried out the sting operation linked Defensor to slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr.

Odicta was shot to death by gunmen in Malay, Aklan in August last year.

After Odicta’s death, the suspect’s operation got bigger, police said.

Defensor owned a meat stall at the Janiuay public market. An undercover police officer was able to buy from him a sachet of shabu for P500, said Senior Inspector John Paul Guay, Janiuay police chief.

Thirty-three more sachets were seized from the suspect, he added.

Defensor had been under surveillance for quite some time.

“He is in our order of battle as high-value target but he is too elusive. He does not easily trust buyers,” said Guay.

Defensor was detained at the Janiuay police station. He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
