CAPIZ—The 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has welcomed the resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Iloilo expressing full support for the national government’s efforts to assert and protect the country’s claims over the West Philippine Sea.
The resolution marks strengthened collaboration between local leaders and national defense forces in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
Iloilo SP Resolution No. 2025-656, authored by Hon. June Mondejar and co-sponsored by all members of the provincial board, serves as a strong statement of unity and patriotism. It underscores the importance of civic responsibility and local government participation in national security matters, reflecting the growing recognition of LGUs’ role in promoting and defending territorial rights.
MGen. Michael G. Samson, 3ID Commander, expressed deep appreciation for the provincial board’s support, describing the resolution as a meaningful show of solidarity between the military and local governance.
“This resolution is a powerful articulation of the people of Iloilo’s commitment to uniting behind our government as it asserts the nation’s territorial rights,” he said. He emphasized that defending the West Philippine Sea is not solely a military undertaking but a shared responsibility that requires active involvement from all Filipinos.
He added, “The support of our local leaders strengthens our resolve to fulfill our mandate of protecting the nation and its people.”
According to MGen. Samson, resolutions like this reinforce the military’s peace and security efforts and help build more resilient communities capable of facing external challenges.
The 3ID Commander also assured the public of the military’s continued collaboration with local government units (LGUs), civic organizations, and community groups across Western and Central Visayas and the Negros Island Region. These partnerships aim to support initiatives that enhance peace, security, and preparedness, especially in coastal communities that may be directly affected by developments in the West Philippine Sea.
Planned activities include workshops, seminars, and community dialogues designed to increase public awareness of national sovereignty issues and encourage citizen participation in defense preparedness.
The Iloilo SP’s resolution serves not only as an affirmation of local support but also as a clear message to neighboring countries regarding the Philippines’ firm stance on its maritime rights. It reinforces the government’s resolve to defend its territorial claims amid continuing regional tensions.
