SAN JOSE, Antique – Five local government units (LGUs) in the province canceled afternoon classes from pre-school to senior high school due to the northeast monsoon rains enhanced by Tropical Storm Quiel.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Broderick Train said Wednesday the local chief executives of the towns of San Jose de, Sibalom, Hamtic, Valderrama, and San Remigio suspended the afternoon classes both in public and private schools.
“The local chief executives of the towns declared cancellation of afternoon classes because of the inclement weather,” Train said.
He also cited the power disruption experienced in this capital town from 10 a.m. to noontime.
“Per our monitoring, there was also a fishing boat that was damaged because of the squall that occurred in San Jose seawater,” he said.
The three crew members of the fishing boat, however, were immediately rescued by another fishing boat within the vicinity.
He still has to get the name of the fishing boat and know the extent of damage incurred since the situation happened only around noontime Wednesday.
Train said they are just advising the fishermen to be extra careful since they expect the inclement weather until Thursday./PN
