BACOLOD City – Of the 61 barangays in this city, seven have recorded fireworks-related injuries from Dec. 21, 2023 up to Jan. 3 of this year.
Grace Tan, chief of the Environment Sanitation Division of the City Health Office, said these barangays were: Villamonte (two injuries); Pahanocoy, Alangilan, Singcang-Airport, Mansilingan, Estefania, and 36, with one each.
Tan claimed that the minimal figure recorded in celebrating Christmas and New Year can be attributed to the massive campaign of the local government unit on “Iwas Paputok.”
Among the eight total injuries, seven were treated and sent home, while the other one was confined in a hospital here.
Most of the victims were injured by a five-star firecracker.
Based on the assessment of the Bacolod City Police Office, the holiday celebrations here have been peaceful./PN
