ILOILO City – Around 70 beneficiaries of the city government’s housing relocation program may be booted out of the houses awarded to them.
They violated the conditions set to continue enjoying the city government’s socialized housing program, said Councilor Jay Treñas, chairperson of the city council’s committee on urban poor.
“The violations included delinquent payment and their non-occupation of the housing units. Others were found to have rented out or sold their units to others,” said Treñas.
All the 70 beneficiaries were in just one relocation site but the city councilor declined to say where exactly.
The home lots of these violators may be given to 65 families currently staying at the city’s transient houses in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district, said Treñas.
Cleansing the list of housing beneficiaries is a priority of the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) which is tasked to implement the city government’s socialized housing program. New head Jeck Conlu recently started a review.
The violators were previously issued warnings and next week, they will be receiving notices to explain, said Treñas.
The city government has 7,864 housing program awardees, ICUPAO records showed.
Last year, housing units were taken back by ICUPAO from 29 beneficiaries due to violations, said Conlu./PN
