73 ICPO cops undergo ‘surprise’ drug test

ILOILO City – Seventy-three police officers were summoned on Friday at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) for a conference. But they were in for a surprise – they were subjected to a drug test.

ICPO director, Police Colonel Leo Batiles gathered his personnel at 8 a.m. and ordered them to submit urine samples to the personnel of the Regional Crime Laboratory who carried out the drug test.

The 73 personnel came from different police precincts; some were detailed at the ICPO, particularly in the mobile force, and others were investigators.

“This surprise drug test was part of our internal cleansing process. We want nga ang pagsalig sang mga tawo sa aton ma-maintain naton through this process and other disciplinary actions that would correct the negative attitudes of our men,” said Batiles.

The test results will be released this week. Those who will flunk it face possible administrative and criminal charges.

“There will be confirmatory tests for those who will fail. But I’m optimistic that our men are free from illegal drugs. Bal-an nila nga sige-sige aton internal cleansing,” Batiles said.

More “surprise” drug tests wills be carried out, including the personnel of the City Drug Enforcement Unit./PN
