77-year-old pedestrian dies after motorcycle collision in Escalante

BACOLOD City — A 77-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road at around 5:50 p.m. on August 23 at Crossing Yolanda, Barangay Old Poblacion, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified as alias “Pido,” a resident of the area.

The Escalante City Police Station identified the motorcycle driver as alias “Dondon,” 43, married, and also a resident of the locality.

Initial police investigation showed that the motorcycle was traveling from Crossing Danao toward Crossing Barcelona when it reached the area of the incident.

At the time, the victim was reportedly crossing the road while carrying firewood when he was hit by the motorcycle.

The collision caused the pedestrian to sustain injuries to various parts of his body.

Responders from the Escalante City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) immediately transported him to Vicente Gustilo District Hospital for medical treatment.

Despite medical intervention, the attending physician later pronounced the victim dead.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle and its driver were brought to the police station for proper documentation and disposition.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal road accident./PN
