LEZO, Aklan – Want to earn P3,000 fast? A barangay council would give anyone such amount.
How? By catching those who are littering used, stinky diapers.
The barangay council of Bagto, Lezo came up with the offer in a bid to stop irresponsible parents or guardians from making the highway a dumpsite of their children’s used diapers.
Diaper littering has become a primary concern of the village, said Barangay Captain Renee Layson.
The ugly sight and smell of used diapers along the highway is not good for the village’s image, he stressed.
The Department of Public Works and Highways is currently constructing a new provincial road – traversing the village – that will shorten travel time from Iloilo to Barangay Caticlan in Malay, Aklan, the jump off point to Boracay Island.
Layson said because of the new road infrastructure leading to the primary tourist destination in Western Visayas, there is a need for them to ensure cleanliness of their barangay.
The barangay council urged “complainants” to take a picture of those who are littering to make sure their accusations are reliable, and they could get the cash reward. (PNA)
