SAN JOSE, Antique – Authorities have not monitored or responded to any major untoward incident five days into the 60th Palarong Pambansa.
So far “everything [goes as] smoothly as planned,” Lieutenant Colonel Vener Morga, commander of the Philippine Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion, said in a text message on Friday.
Morga stressed they will remain on alert to make sure the entire duration of the national multisport event will be crime-free.
Closing ceremonies for the Palaro is set to be held at the Binirayan Sports Complex today.
Checkpoint operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will remain in effect, Morga said.
Morga noted a “few minor glitches,” like security personnel watching the games instead of making rounds at venues and “improper checking” of people entering venues and billeting schools, but said they acted on these during nightly critiquing sessions.
Meanwhile Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao said Ilonggo senator Franklin M. Drilon will be the guest of honor during the Palaro closing ceremonies.
Antique is grateful to Drilon, who was instrumental in the construction of the Olympic-sized pool at the Binirayan Sports Complex that was used for the swimming competitions, the governor said. (PNA)
