ILOILO City – Ten days after denying he was involved in illegal drugs, a suspect was busted in an antidrug operation of the police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Ledesma Street, City Proper.
On Thursday night, operatives of Police Station 1 and PDEA arrested 35-year-old Joseph Jasper Duran of Barangay Tabucan, Mandurriao district.
Duran was a newly identified suspected drug personality and reportedly a nephew of fugitive suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido.
An undercover police officer was able to buy a sachet of shabu from Duran for P600 around 9:30 p.m.
Two more sachets were found in his possession.
The suspect was taken to Police Station 1 where he, on June 12, presented himself to deny he was trafficking illegal drugs.
“Even after he surrendered, we kept receiving information he was still engaged in the illegal drug trade,” said Chief Inspector Aldrin Lamera, Police Station 1 chief.
On June 8, Duran escaped from policemen who were trying to entrap him in Barangay Tanza Baybay, City Proper. He and a woman companion, the 23-year-old Niña Piranda of Barangay Tanza Bayabay, boarded a taxi to flee.
Several hours after, Piranda was arrested at RBR beach resort in Arevalo district.
On June 12 Duran appeared at Police Station 1 accompanied by his mother Mila and wife Rachel. He said he feared for his and denied he was trafficking shabu.
Police Station 1 did not detain Duran when he surrendered on June 12. Lamera said no arrest warrant was yet issued against the suspect.
Police Station 1 charged Duran and Piranda with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
