BACOLOD City – The local government of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental will host the International Day for the World’s Indigenous People on Aug.9.
About 3,000 indigent people (IP) from different parts of Visayas are expected to gather at the municipal covered court of Binalbagan.
With the support from nongovernmental organizations and national government agencies, the celebration aims to promote the rights and culture of IPs.
Representatives from the National Commission on Indigenous People, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (NIR), the Department of Education-NIR, the Department of Labor and Employment-NIR, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Diocese of Kabankalan will attend the celebration, said Municipal IP coordinator Pablito Gonzales.
On July 24 to 26, a strategic planning of the Federation of Indigenous People’s Association was held at the Servants of Divine Mercy Center in Binalbagan.
An IP summit on biocultural diversity will be held on Aug. 6 to 8 at the Binalbagan convention hall. A cultural heritage display will also be conducted.
Moreover, an information education campaign on the indigenous political system in Binalbagan will be conducted in barangays Santol, Amontay and Biao on Aug. 14 to 16./PN
