MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has described the high number of casualties during illegal drug operations as “normal.”
In a speech during the 116th Police Service Anniversary at the National Capital Region Police Office, Dela Rosa said those killed resisted arrest.
“Magtaka kayo kung patay lahat. Marami namang buhay na nahuli,” Dela Rosa said. “’Yung problema sa droga ay nandyan pa rin. Kaming mga pulis nagtatrabaho lamang kami.”
Dela Rosa told policemen to ignore critics of the war on drugs and focus on their job.
“We are fighting formidable enemies, ayaw paawat ng mga drug lords. Patuloy ang pasok ng ilegal na droga sa bansa at ang malungkot na katotohanan na may mga pulis na sangkot sa drugs at krimen,” he added.
Policemen have been criticized for the high number of drug personalities being killed in various drug operations in Bulacan, Manila, Quezon City, Camanava, and Marikina City since Monday.
“Hindi ka magtrabaho, babatikusin ka. Magtrabaho ka, sasabihin impunity. Saan ka pupunta? Huwag kayo making. Deep inside your heart you know what you are doing is for the good of the country. Gawin natin ang pananagutan natin sa Diyos,” said Dela Rosa.
According to the police chief, he wanted his men “to be compassionate on peace-loving citizens, tough on criminals, and tougher on police personnel involved in illegal activities.”
“We will not slow down kasi andyan pa rin ang problema,” said Dela Rosa./PN
