ROXAS City – Five cacao stations were put up across Capiz.
These stations, where farmers can sell their products, were in the towns of Mambusao, Pilar, Dao, Cuartero, and Ivisan.
“Wet and dry cacao seeds are sold at an average price of P30.00 and P40.00, respectively,” an enterprise owner said.
The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) is helping entrepreneurs in Pontevdra in their cacao-based chocolate tablets, or tablea, and cacao beans by-products.
PCA also intercropped cacao in a coconut plantation in Barangay Lonoy, Sapia-an as additional livelihood for farmers.
Cacao products were featured at the Trade Expo last month at Robinsons Place in the city during the 2017 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Week.
Aklan, Antique and Iloilo were also potential area for cacao production in Western Visayas. (PIA/PN)
