ILOILO City – Police recovered a hand grenade, a homemade .45 pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun and bullets from the house of an illegal logging suspect in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Ajuy, Iloilo yesterday.
With a search warrant from the court, operatives of the Ajuy police station raided Renante Cacho’s house around 2:30 p.m.
Cacho, 37, was taken to the municipal police station.
“He was caught by surprise,” said Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento, Ajuy police chief.
Cacho was recently charged with illegal logging. Some half a million pesos worth of logs were seized last month in Barangay Luca, Ajuy and Cacho was tagged as the owner, said Sustento.
Ajuy police station sought a search warrant from the court after receiving complaints from neighbors that Cacho was constantly threatening them and that the suspect owned guns.
“We are validating if he is a gun-for-hire, too,” said Sustento.
Cacho faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
