BACOLOD City – Land conflict was the motive in a hacking incident in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, police said.
Resident Richard Paquera, 23, hacked the 39-year-old Luis Solis when the latter was on his way home around 10 a.m. on Sunday, a police report showed.
The wounded Solis managed to run to his house but Paquera chased him and repeatedly hacked him in front of his live-in partner and three children.
Paquera also attacked the others.
Solis died of hacked wounds on different parts of the body. His son, 11-year-old Marcelino, and daughter Lady Loisa, 6, also died.
Live-in partner Jennifer Caratayco, 27, and Solis’ 13-year-old son Lawrence Andrew were wounded and rushed to the rural health unit of La Castellana. They were later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in this city.
Paquera surrendered to barangay officials who turned him over to the police.
Solis and Paquera were cousins, according to Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon of the La Castellana police station.
