ILOILO City – Guimaras landed on the 27th spot in the list of the Most Competitive Provinces in the country.
Last year, the island province was number 52.
The National Competitiveness Council attributed the improvement to the province’s performance in streamlining businesses in its five towns, accreditation of establishments, environmental compliance, transparency, and good governance.
“We collaborate with line agencies for issuance of permits and accreditation of our establishments,” said Provincial Economic Development Officer Elena Quezon. “Many of our resorts and accommodations were now accredited.”
Quezon added their one-on-one mentoring on environmental compliance encouraged establishments to secure permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The National Competitiveness Council based the province’s competitive index on its economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure. (PIA/PN)
