ILOILO City – The legislative bodies of the city and provincial governments of Iloilo passed resolutions commending the policemen who neutralized Western Visayas’ No. 1 most wanted man and drug lord Richard Prevendido.
In this city, Sangguniang Panlungsod member Jeffrey Ganzon sponsored the resolution commending “the joint operatives headed by Police Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba (director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office), the Iloilo City Police Office, the Special Weapons and Tactics and the Jaro police station for a job well done.”
According to Ganzon, the death of Prevendido would have “many implications for the city.”
“This means the weakening of drug network. This means illegal drugs will no longer flourish as they did before. This also means more peace for us Ilonggos,” he said.
In the province, a similar resolution was sponsored by Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Domingo Oso.
Tayaba thanked the legislative bodies.
“Malaki ang pasasalamat namin na mga operatiba, buong kapulisan ng Iloilo Police Provincial Office, lalong-lalo na sa mga kasamahan namin (from other police units) na nag-operate din,” he said.
The other units were the Iloilo City Police (ICPO) and the Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
The commendations will further boost the morale of policemen, Tayaba added, in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Prevendido died in a shootout with policemen serving a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 after a raid of his house in October last year resulted to the recovery of shabu.
The shootout took place at Landheights Subdivision in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City on Sept. 1.
Recovered from Prevendido were an AK-47 assault rifle, two .45 guns, bladed weapons, and sachets of suspected shabu, among others./PN
