ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in San Miguel, Iloilo was ransacked. A laptop, tablet computer, external hard drive, and money were stolen.
The burglary was discovered yesterday around 8 a.m. by a casual employee of Comelec, according to Inspector Francis Albert Fortunado, San Miguel police chief.
The robbers entered the office through a hole on the wall for an air-conditioning unit, initial police investigation showed.
Fortunado believed the robbery was carried out between 1 a.m. to 3 a.m.
The missing laptop was Comelec property but the external hard drive was the personal property of the local election officer Grace Maniba. Fortunado said it contained “law documents.”
The San Miguel police station estimated the loot to have reached around P30,000.
According to Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) commander Chief Inspector Hilarion Roga, the Comelec office was forcibly opened.
This was not the first time the Comelec office of San Miguel was robbed, said Fortunado, citing a similar incident last year./PN
