ILOILO City – A cargo van loaded with orders from an online retail business fell on its side in Barangay Cabugao Sur, Santa Barbara, Iloilo yesterday.

Its driver lost control of the steering wheel when the Mitsubishi Canter suddenly swerved due to the weight of the cargo, police said.

The driver, 37-year-old Lee Cachuela of Barangay Ungka, Jaro district, was injured on the arm. He was taken to the Iloilo Mission Hospital, also in Jaro.

Cachuela was negotiating the highway from the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan town when the accident happened around 5:45 a.m.

“The driver just picked up shipment from Lazada at the airport,” Santa Barbara police investigator Police Officer 1 Mark Puga told Panay News. “All the heavy packages were concentrated at the very back of the van.”

Police said the van (plate number: ADA 3631), which was travelling 70 kilometers per hour, was damaged on its left side. It was not immediately clear whether or not the shipped items were damaged, too./PN
