ILOILO City – If the sister of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido were to be believed, there were no drug personalities in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
The report of the Bakhaw Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) submitted to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sept. 15 did not contain names of suspected drug personalities, according to Inspector Juan Tigaronita, Mandurriao police chief.
As the barangay captain of Bakhaw, Remia Prevedido Gregori also heads her village’s BADAC.
The BADAC report was also silent on the presence of drug dens in Barangay Bakhaw, said Tigaronita.
He found the report “really impossible.”
“Based on our own list, there are around 30 suspected drug personalities in Barangay Bakhaw and they are our targets,” said Tigaronita.
Gregori’s son Boni is among these 30 personalities and considered a high-value drug suspect, he revealed.
Boni has a standing warrant of arrest for an illegal drug case, said Tigaronita.
The police chief also said his station received information that “there are drug dens in the area.”
On the other hand, the head of the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Senior Inspector Kennith Bermejo, insisted that Barangay Bakhaw remained a source of shabu in this city and Iloilo province.
“There are drug dens there, too, based on our intelligence monitoring and revelation of arrested drug personalities,” said Bermejo.
He agreed with Tigaronita that “it’s impossible there are no drug personalities and drug dens in the area. In fact Bakhaw is among the barangays with a high number of high-value targets.”
Just this Sept. 18, Gregori herself surrendered to the Mandurriao police station. She agreed to undergo police profiling but insisted she was not involved in illegal drugs.
Accompanied by her lawyer Rameces Padilla, Gregori submitted fingerprints and had her mug shots taken.
According to Tigaronita, Gregori was a high-value drug target.
“We are thankful that she turned herself in to our police station,” said Tigaronita, adding that it took them quite some time to convince the barangay captain to do so.
Gregori denied, too, having idea of her brother Richard’s illegal drug activities.
Richard, a fugitive charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, died in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Balabago, Jaro district on Sept. 1.
Gregori denied having protected her brother.
In March this year, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives tried to enter the barangay captain’s house but she refused to let them in. They did not have a search warrant./PN
