ILOILO City – Emelita Apaso was crossing the highway in Barangay Buntatala, Leganes, Iloilo when a public utility jeepney hit her.
The 71-year-old resident of No. 27, E. Lopez Street, Jaro district died.
Apaso sustained head injuries after the incident at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
She was taken to the Iloilo Mission Hospital in Jaro on board the Leganes municipal ambulance.
The attending physician, Dr. Emilia Sornito, pronounced her dead at around 9:30 p.m., police said.
The driver of the Barotac Nuevo-Iloilo City jeepney that hit Apaso – 51-year-old Tomas Jimenez of Barangay Acuit, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo – turned himself in to the Leganes police station.
Jimenez was detained. His vehicle (plate number FVE 697) was impounded at the station./PN
