SAN JOSE, Antique – Consumers were advised to be wary of fake products, especially that the holiday season is approaching.
Trade and industry development specialist Glen Fernando warned consumers of the proliferation of counterfeit and uncertified products in the market during a news conference at the Negosyo Center in this capital town.
Fernando said fake products may be sold in the market due to the holiday season’s high demand.
He added that these items include Christmas lights and other electrical products for Christmas and New Year.
“We need vigilance. The public must report unscrupulous traders who engage in selling counterfeit products. They must be apprehended to prevent further damages like accidents that could lead to loss of lives and properties,” Fernando said.
In June, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) apprehended four business establishments in the province after confiscating uncertified and counterfeit products in their stores.
Fernando said selling of fake products may lead to closure of establishment.
He also encouraged consumers not to patronize fake products so that demand for them will be cut off.
DTI works with the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and other agencies in stopping the spread of fake products in the market. (PIA/PN)
