BACOLOD City – Three people staged a holdup in a business establishment on CL Montelibano Avenue, Barangay Villamonte.
Two customers lost valuables to the robbers while the owner – an Israeli national – was shot by the culprits, police said.
Only two suspects staged the actual holdup. Their companion served as lookout and driver of the getaway motorcycle, said the police. They remained unidentified as of press time.
The incident at Tito Sam’s Place Mediterranean Food, Café and Snack Bar happened at around 10:58 p.m. on Wednesday.
One of the suspects fired at the owner, Shmuel Haimovitch, when the latter tried to rescue the victims Carmen Cuadra, 63, of Barangay 1 and Marilou Mills, 60, of Barangay Estefania, said Chief Inspector Ritchie Gohee, Police Station 4 head.
The 60-year-old foreigner sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of the body. He was taken to The Doctors’ Hospital.
The culprits took Cuadra’s gray travelling bag containing several identification cards, automated teller machine cards, driver’s license, and P2,500 cash, and Mills’ black sling bag containing several IDs, a cellphone and P5,000 cash.
It was known that the robbery victims were friends of the owner’s Filipina wife.
A slug and an empty cartridge were found at the crime scene. Police have yet to identify the firearm used.
The suspects fled on board a motorcycle.
Two of them were wearing full-face bonnets while the other was donning a ball cap and had a handkerchief covering their face, Gohee said.
Superintendent Roderick Minong, city police officer-in-charge, directed Police Station 4 to delve into the crime, said Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, city police spokeswoman./PN
