BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) condemns the series of ambush attacks in Western Visayas and other parts of the Philippines.
“We are all aware of the successive attacks of the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines- New People’s Army) to different government agencies following the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte to stop the peace talk process with the National Democratic Front,” said Nocppo director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr.
The National Democratic Front is the political arm of the CPP.
Castil added that the rebels want to “regain and establish their existence.”
The Nocppo chief said his men “won’t lower their guards” after he placed all police units in the province on full alert.
He said this is to prepare and preempt any possible attacks of the NPA.
“We are expecting something big on or before Dec. 26. It is CPP-NPA’s anniversary. We cannot give further details but we will always be ready,” Castil added.
In a statement, Nocppo appealed to the public to cooperate with them amid the security situation.
“Let us act together to end the long suffering from senseless war and unnecessary loss of lives,” Nocppo said.
According to Castil, the cooperation between the community and the police will help in attaining peace and order in the province.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) also released a statement condemning the attacks, especially the one in Maasin, Iloilo on Nov. 25, which it called “barbaric and terroristic.”
The BCPO encouraged the public to report to them any activity of rebels./PN
