KALIBO, Aklan – Municipal hall employees are lamenting over the alleged postponement of the release of their thirteenth-month pay.
Members of the Mga Pobreng Empleyado it Kalibo mga Paantuson it Eaun nga Katig-a it Tagipusuon said in a statement that they were assured to receive their thirteenth-month pay this December.
“Both Kalibo mayor William Lachica and municipal treasurer Rey Villarruel told us the local government have enough funds for our 13th-month pay,” they said.
However, municipal budget officer Nannie Roldan allegedly said the employees’ thirteenth-month pay cannot be disbursed since the “remaining funds of Kalibo will be used for the infrastructure programs of the town.”
Panay News has yet to reach Roldan for comment as of this writing.
Moreover, the employees have urged Lachica to intervene for the disbursement of their yearend pay.
Lachica has not yet given his comment on the issue.
The thirteenth-month pay “is a form of monetary benefit equivalent to the monthly basic compensation received by an employee, computed pro-rata according to the number of months within a year that the employee has rendered service to the employer,” according to the Department of Labor and Employment.
All establishments – regardless of the number of employees – are required to give their rank-and-file employees the thirteenth month pay, the Labor department added./PN
