KALIBO, Aklan – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) recognized the feat of an Aklanon who won medals in the 18th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Age Group Open Chess Championships (50 years old and above category).
Provincial sports coordinator Wilfredo Neri of New Washington, Aklan bagged five gold medals and a silver medal in the international tournament held from Nov. 26 to Dec. 3 in Kuantan Pahang, Malaysia.
Neri represented the Philippines against other nine participating countries – like China and Australia – during the chess competition.
The SP passed a resolution honoring Neri for his achievement.
In 2013, Neri was the first international chess arbiter of the World Chess Federation./PN
