ILOILO – “We have no control over his activities outside the station.”
This was what the police chief of Sara, Iloilo said when asked about his policeman now charged with murder for the death of an employee of the municipal government.
“I have nothing (bad) to say about him. He was never absent though sometimes he reported late for work,” said Senior Inspector Gilbert Baldevarona, Sara police chief.
He was referring to Police Officer 2 Keven Piosca, the suspected mastermind in the shooting of Mae Luzuriaga, a 53-year-old accounting officer at Sara’s Municipal Engineering Office.
Piosca was assigned as jailer at the Sara police station.
“We never heard complaints against him from inmates but we have no control over his activities outside the station,” said Baldevarona.
It was only six months ago when Piosca was assigned to Sara from the police station in nearby San Dionisio town where he served as intelligence officer.
“His involvement in the Luzuriaga murder case was his personal choice,” said Baldevarona.
Luzuriaga was shot at a refreshment parlor in Concepcion on Jan. 11. The gunman, 21-year-old Edmar Camangyan of Barangay Preciosa, Sara, was arrested and pointed to Piosca as the mastermind.
“I’m innocent. I never told anybody to kill her. I will not gamble my career over a crime,” Piosca insisted.
The policeman denied he owed Luzuriaga P1 million nor was Camangyan a friend though he said the young man was familiar to him as an employee of a machine shop near the Sara police station.
According to Camangyan, Piosca threatened to kill him if he won’t cooperate with the policeman’s plan against Luzuriaga.
He also claimed the gun he used to shoot the victim came from an errand boy of Piosca he only identified as Toto.
Both Piosca and Camangyan were charged with murder on Monday together with Luzuriaga’s friend and officemate Ramona Magbanua, and Toto.
The Concepcion police station was detaining Camangyan while the National Bureau of Investigation took custody of Piosca./PN
