Iloilo cruises to 2nd straight win in PFF Youth

MANILA – Iloilo United Green Archers Team B cruised to its second straight win in the PFF Youth Football League U-15 after beating the GOM squad 3-0 at the Alabang Country Club in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Both teams struggled to score early in the Sunday match until Iloilo’s Lian Joseph Celis forced the GOM goalkeeper to an own goal violation.

Iloilo surged to a 2-0 lead just before halftime break when the GOM’s goalkeeper failed to clear his save on the attempt of Francis Botavara.

After a number of misses, Iloilo drained a clear one late in the match, with James Tuazon eluding the defense of the GOM to stretch the lead 3-0.

Joseph Celis, Iloilo team manager, said he was glad they performed well despite the tight defense of the opponent.

“We have at least 10 clear attempts against GOM that were all missed or tapped out by the GOM’s goalkeeper, but we are happy to come out with the victory here,” Celis told Panay News.

“Aside from the scorers, also credit to the consistent plays of Matmat (Sobredo), Charlie (Carisma) and Jake (Salazar) on both ends of the floor,” he added.

Iloilo United Green Archers currently has 29 points on nine wins, two draws and one defeat. Two more games await the Ilonggo team./PN
