PH Football: Ceres-Negros FC blanks Air Force

MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC continued its hot streak in the 2019 Philippines Football League. It posted a 5-0 victory over the Philippine Air Force FC at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.

Manuel Super Herrera, Dylan De Bruycker and Robert Lopez Mendy converted a goal each on Saturday as Ceres-Negros moved up to 34 points, reopening a six-point advantage against regional rival Kaya Futbol Club Iloilo.

“I wanted to score for a long time ago already because I did not score for almost a year,” Herrera said. “I’m always happy to help the team and I will continue to do my best on the pitch.”

The defending champions had a tough time breaching past the Philippine Air Force defense early in the match until Herrera broke the scoreless deadlock with a 15th minute conversion.

Since then, the Busmen was defended well by the Air Force until De Bruycker converted the second goal for the Negros Occidental-based football team at the 34th minute.

Lopez Mendy capped the scoring spree for the Ceres-Negros with a 59th minute goal before being subbed out for James Younghusband, who recently joined the team in lieu of Omid Nazari. The Philippine Air Force, on the other hand, failed to follow up on its stunning 1-0 victory against Mendiola FC 1991 Wednesday last week and remained at fifth place with seven points.

In the second game, Global Makati FC’s Paolo Salenga scored a goal late in the match to force a 1-1 draw with the Green Archers United FC and negate the early conversion of Tonaldo Appiah./PN
