‘No place for violence in civilized society’

ROXAS City – Capiz governor Esteban Evan Contreras denounced the murder of John Heredia, municipal administrator of Pilar town.

“Vicious acts of violence have no place in a civilized society where people have the right to live their lives free from the threat of violence,” said Contreras in a statement.

Heredia was gunned down by masked gunmen on May 2 as he was leaving a hardware store in Barangay Lawaan here.

The Capiz provincial government condoled with the bereaved family of Heredia.

Contreras directed the Capiz Police Provincial Office to conduct a thorough investigation.

In September 2019, Heredia’s wife Criselda, a human rights lawyer, survived an ambush after attending a court hearing.

Criselda was with her 26-year-old daughter who was driving their vehicle and client Jimmy Dordas when her car was strafed in Sigma town.

The Heredias were unhurt but the client sustained minor injuries.

The vehicle sustained nine bullets holes.

The other day, Mayor Ronnie Dadivas condemned the killing, too. He ordered the Roxas City police to conduct a thorough probe./PN
