ROXAS City – An afternoon tornado touched down in Barangay Gabu-an here and flattened a house.
Owned by tricycle driver Ramon Alejaga, 47, the house was totally wrecked around 5 p.m. on May 14.
No one was hurt.
According to Alejaga, no one was home when the tornado struck. He was driving his tricycle while his wife was in the market. Their children, on the other hand, were out playing somewhere.
They were all shocked to come home seeing their house flattened, said Alejaga.
A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction, wrecking large buildings, uprooting trees and hurling vehicles hundreds of meters.
The Alejagas were supposed to celebrate their barangay fiesta on May 15 but they could not celebrate because of what happened to their house.
The city government here and the provincial government of Capiz are set to extend assistance to the Alejaga family./PN
